Your Journey. Our Narrative.
The Origin
Built on
Heritage &
Patience
Founded in 2015 by Lethabo Mahamba, Layback Atelier is a South African premium brand built on heritage, patience, and self-expression.
Rooted in a family of creators, the brand's foundation was shaped by generations of craftsmanship. Lethabo's late mother was a knitwear designer, while his grandmother was a dressmaker — their influence instilling an appreciation for garment construction, attention to detail, and the transformative power of clothing.
Philosophy
A design language rooted in
who you already are
Industrial Luxury
We blend the rawness of industrial craft with the refinement of true luxury — creating garments that hold weight without losing ease.
Contemporary Streetwear
Street culture is our native language. We translate it into considered silhouettes that speak across generations and contexts.
South African Craft
Every stitch carries the spirit of local craftsmanship — a commitment to making in Africa, for the world.
Patience in Progress
In a world of instant gratification, we create as a reminder that meaningful growth — like great garments — takes time.
The Journey
It begins
long before
the label
Long before Layback Atelier existed, the journey began in primary school. Lethabo would alter his school uniforms, up-cycle old garments for casual days, and experiment with silhouettes and textiles to create pieces that reflected his individuality.
These early experiences revealed a simple truth: clothing is one of the most powerful forms of self-communication. Each piece is designed to become part of a larger narrative — one that evolves with time, experience, and personal growth.
Our Belief
"Style is not about fitting in.
It is about becoming."
